Terragon Terrain | Modular Magnetic Tile System

Created by Terragon Terrain

Terragon Terrain is a modular terrain system designed with ALL tabletop games in mind. Each tile aligns to the next using powerful rare earth magnets. Easy self alignment means each Terragon will always snap right into place, no positive, no negative, only the results you need when you want them. Want to learn more about Terragons? Check out our Kickstarter page or our website Terragons.com to learn more. Terragon Terrain was born from our games. We hope to make it a part of your next session too!

Terragons News Thursday

Hello all and welcome to the 11th installment of TNT.

I had hoped to wait to have something interesting to share with you all but I guess every week can't be jam packed with excitement and new developments. Which I guess is not necessarily a bad thing.

So how about a general progress update.

We will be meeting with the Injection Molding company next week. To review final samples and approve the color matching. We are excited with the quality and durability of the samples we have seen and are confident we made the right choice going with the test mold first as we are certain to deliver the best quality product!

3d printing of Scatter is on schedule just as we hoped. We will have some exciting updates for the trees to share once design is finalized and printing begins in the very near future! We had waited for trees to be one of the last scatters since we where selecting new filament. And this has given us more time to design them and make them the best product they can be!

We have also taken steps to implement an online store. We want Terragon Terrain to be available for purchase as soon as all Kickstarter Orders have been fulfilled.

We will keep everyone up to date and see you in the next TNT!

TNT#9 Whats in the box?!?!

Terragons News Thursday

This week we are going to discuss packaging. Specifically the packaging for scatter an other non Terragon Tile items.

Header Cards

We have decided to forgoe the standard simple packaging common to most Kickstarters. Cheap ill fitting mailers and products tossed in bubble wrap.

For our scatter and other addons we have instead gone with custom bags and header cards. While this isn't a permanent solution for storage like the tile box can be we believe these will offer a great way to bring them to your door. They also have a pretty nifty secret you'll find when you open the card!

Epic scale rock in it's natural habitat.

It's like opening a bag of those classic plastic army men! Everyone loved getting and opening a new pack of those right?

Right?

We do ask that you please read your areas recycling policy and ensure they end up in the correct receptacle.

Our goal is to provide a product that we would want to recieve. We don't believe in statements like "its just a kickstarter" or "that's typical people will understand".

Thats all for this week see you next time.

TNT #9 - Mold Design

Terragons News Thursday(ish)

We have been wanting to share some awesome behind the scenes processes with everyone for the longest time. Today we were finally able to see our test mold in action and see the it make some samples and awe at its magnificence.

The Good Stuff

So without further ado we present photos of our glorious test mold in its natural habitat!

The inside of every Terragon tile!
The Outside of every Terragon tile!
A tile produced after a cycle!

To give a bit of a peek behind the curtain the mold presses together in the machine and piping hot magma... I mean plastic is injected into it. It cools, then the metallic pieces separate. Pins then push the pieces out of the mold to drop into a receiving bin.

It was very important to us that all of the action happen inside the tile. Where it would be hidden away and never seen. We want the outside of these tiles to remain unmarred and beautiful. Remember it's what's on the outside that counts... with Terragons at least.

Color matching is going very well. We are very pleased with our choice of manufacturer. We have stressed to them the importance of quality with our Terragons; they have in turn been open and honest about meeting our expectations. There is still some progress to be made to make the perfect tiles from this mold. But again this is what this mold is for. It's easier to make a change on 2 cavities compared to 16! Once these tiles are coming out perfect every time the real fun can begin!

Tree Time

We had an amazing response to our poll regarding the the tree colors. We have compiled all of the data and the clear winner was the Dark Green Top with the Light Brown Bottom. There where some votes for every combination and some awesome ideas sent our way. For the Kickstarter we will be shipping out the one coloration, but rest assured post Kickstarter we will be offering more variations of colors and design on our store!

As we have said before Terragons aren't going anywhere!

We have greatly improved our 3d processes process... process... We can now achieve even greater detail in our 3d prints and we are excited for the results. We can't wait to show you what we are working on!

Process...

That's it for this weeks TNT, see you in the next one!

TNT#8, Custom Filament Friday
about 3 years ago – Fri, Mar 12, 2021 at 08:35:59 PM

Terragons News (Nearly) Thursday

Except this week it is a special edition called Custom Filament Friday!

We have received our first batch of custom filament. So as we always do we have begun testing and now we need your help!

The Custom Filament

As with every other step in our process we strive for the best quality and look with our materials. We knew we where going to need custom Green and Brown filament for our scatter. While we are somewhat limited by the material, we want to avoid making our scatter too plastic-y. Color choice along with settings our on printers go a long way towards achieving this.

So without further ado we would like to present you all with our tests! The purpose of this test is to compare colors NOT print quality. Every filament acts a bit differently. So we have yet to dial in all the new color settings. But wanted to get you guys this update ASAP to get your thoughts on color. Please note that these models are not our final tree designs.

Dark Green Top with Dark Brown Bottom & Light Green Top with Light Brown Bottom

As you can see we have two versions of each color. Please let us know in the comments below which color combinations you prefer!

Free From Quarantine

Both Corey and Bryson are officially free from any quarantine and can once again work together in a confined space! We are fortunate that neither of us have gotten sick. But we are taking every precaution we can to keep ourselves healthy, and hope that you all remain safe as well!

TNT #7 Tile Time

Terragons News Thursday

Buckle up everyone this is the update we have all been waiting for.

The sample mold is in and we have the first ever injection molded tiles!

Tiles of Fun

We couldn't wait to start playing with these tiles. But first it must be understood that these tiles are samples. They are made with a smaller mold to get all the oddities and possible problems out of the way on a tool that's of a manageable size.

That said, we are incredibly happy with these tiles and wasted no time putting them through their paces.

Assembly. 4 ways.

Our experiment started with a control which was simply put together with magnets. The others where glued in different ways with different adhesives.

The first test was baseball pitching these bad boys as hard as we could into the wall from 10 feet away. While the control (A) exploded the others remained intact. We plan to adjust the pins to prevent this. Sure we don't expect you to throw your tiles at the wall as hard as you can, but we want the tile to be the best that it can be. We want the pins to form a permanent seal on their own with the adhesive being a back up. Would the current pins work? Sure. But they can be better.

Next we put a few hundred pounds on a tile. After not reaching failure we decided that perhaps a rubber mallet on concrete might do the job.

Man these things are tough!

But can they do this?

And by this I mean do they work with dry erase?

Yes, yes they do!

We want to stress that this whole process is to ensure the best final product. We could call it good enough, but we won't settle for anything but the best possible.

See you in the next episode of TNT.
